Partition Magic Is Not Friendly With NTFS Partitions

I came across a lot of Partition Magic on NTFS problems on the internet when I tried to find some info about Partition Magic and it apparently troubled a lot of Partition Magic fans. Today I would like to experience the performance of Partition Magic on NTFS.

Firstly I installed Partition Magic 8.0 on my computer with two NTFS partitions, and then started to resize the partitions. Everything went well until the computer rebooted and the procedure failed, leaving my NTFS partitions in working order. What could be wrong? I thought it could be something tricky of my computer or Partition Magic and I tried again, only this time I tried to redistribute free space on NTFS partition; to my surprise, it was also the same result. What followed was nearly six hours of trouble shooting to no avail, including the installation of two upgrades to the program and running scan disk. Finally, I visited the Partition Magic website with the hope of some guide might be there on NTFS related issues. Finally I found a solution in the knowledge base that recommends converting at least one of the partitions from NTFS to FAT32, then resizing the partition, and then converting the partition back to NTFS.

It sounds so complicated, but one thing that I can make sure Partition Magic can not work directly on NTFS partitions.

As I could remember that Microsoft does not make any provision to convert a drive from NTFS to FAT32; so it seems that this would have to be finished by the Partition Magic 8.0 with the Partition Magic 7.1 upgrade installed. No doubt, only the previous version’s upgrade works on NTFS. Needless to say I am a little bit disappointed and uninstalled the Partition Magic 8.0 from my computer.

With the big name of Partition Magic, many people are still sticked with Partition Magic. Despite the gaff with the NTFS partitions, I would still recommend the program and I would like to find more excellent programs of this kind which work better than Partition Magic on NTFS to you.
