Using RAID-5 volume, you may encounter into a situation that a disk containing part of a RAID-5 volume has been disconnected and this part can't be normally used to be read and written. Usually, you just need to reconnect and reactive the disk in order to make it work well. What if the reconnection and reactivation can't work out and that part refuses to return to the healthy status?
If this happens, you need to replace the failed disk region in the RAID-5 volume and reconstruct the data for the failed part from the remaining members.
To repair a disk region in the RAID-5 volume:
1. Connect a new hard disk into the computer if you have no available dynamic disk for repairing and open computer management (Local)
2. In the console tree, click Computer Management(Local) > click Storage > click Disk Management.
3. First converting the new disk into dynamic disk and right click RAID-5 volume, click Repair Volume, and then follow the instructions on to finish the operation.
Using the list volume command, you can check the status of the RAID-5 volume while it is being regenerated. During regeneration, the volume status is Rebuild, and after regeneration, the volume status is Healthy.
No matter you do this under Windows interface or command line, you must:
To perform this procedure on a local computer, you must be a member of the Backup Operators group or Administrators group on the local computer, or you must have been delegated the appropriate authority.
There must be a dynamic disk with unallocated space that is at least as large as the region to repair.
