IT administrators and server users constantly come across the problem as resizing partition on Windows Server 2000/2003. For No one can predict the proper size of each partition on server before actually installing the server operating system. Then before long time, various problems may come out and force you to consider resizing server partition. At this point the very thing concerns you most must be how to resize the server partition without installing systems and programs again? Windows Server 2008 has some kind of disk management functions, but is the built-in utility good and powerful enough for our daily partition server maintenance? Let's take a look.

In Windows Server 2008 you need to go to Server Manager, found in the Administrative Tools folder or on the My Computer context menu. Next, scroll down till you get to the Storage section, and in it go to the Disk Management console.
Resizing server partition under Windows 2008 is OK as long as you have enough space near the volume needed to be extended and you must be very familiar with all the confusing parameters. You need to input the configuration by hand or remember the command line. If you are using the Windows Server 2003 and some other older server operation systems, you have nothing to do with it when your volume has run out of space. Then you need a third party server partition manager to resize server partition in a more reliable and easier way.
