Data Security SoftwareFrustrated with less space due to crammed disk with ever-changing data stored on it? Hope to transfer data from old dynamic disk to a new one or upgrade from the old small dynamic disk to other larger ones? Anything like that brings a question: how to transfer data from dynamic disk and what is the safe and quick way?
In a basic disk, all partitions are in the same physical hard disk and they are easy to be controlled by MBR, partition table, DBR, etc. But to dynamic disks, the dynamic volume is constructed by two or more physical disks, so to transfer data from dynamic disk means you have to copy file from each dynamic disk. Except for a dynamic disk with only Simple Volume, it is easier to manage, as Simple Volume does not span different physical disks.
Actually, with increasing storage capacity and lower price, more and more people want to transfer data from old dynamic disks to new ones. But to Server users, your first requirement must be safe and quick, without data losing or system reinstalling.
What is the better way to transfer data from dynamic disk?
Actually, transferring data from a basic disk is really easy, and there are many clone software available for you to realize it, but to dynamic volume, it is more difficult. From the explanation above, to clone dynamic disk or transfer data from dynamic disk, you have to copy the dynamic volume. If you clone the single dynamic disk, you'll only get part of the file fragment and you cannot use it.
You may get such complicated answer from some technical staff: the way you choose depends on your specific situation. It may be true. While anyway, you just need a straightforward way to do that. Some reliable third party software will help you transfer data from dynamic disk quickly and safely. Here we would like to introduce partition manager software - EASEUS Partition Master which can change the partition size when copying the dynamic volume to another basic disk.
How to transfer data from dynamic disk?
Run EASEUS Partition Master, click "Copy Dynamic Volume" on toolbar or "Wizard" > "Copy Dynamic Volume"
1. Choose the source dynamic volume.
2. Choose the unallocated space on target basic disk.
3. Edit the target partition size.
4. Tick the "Shut down the computer after changes are applied" option when apply the changes.
5. Transfer data from dynamic disk to basic disk done.
The target disk should be a basic hard disk or RAID virtual disk. For example, if you want to transfer data from dynamic disk Mirrored Volume - software RAID 1 to hardware RAID 1, you can config the RAID 1 firstly and copy the dynamic volume to this virtual disk directly.
