How to extend partitions especially C drive in Windows Server 2003?

Problems caused by space deficiency

For Server computers, the security and stability are undoubtedly the most significant aspects since a Server computer usually stores a lot of important daily-used files. However, even a slight error on server computer might directly cause breakdown of the whole network to the outside. And a more disturbing problem is that a large number of files will eat up available space of Server computers sooner or later. For instance, if your C drive is out of space, the Server computer will fight for the precious space and run slowly. The most irritating thing is that even you have unallocated space on your hard disk, you just can't redistribute it to an existing partition for the unallocated space is not behind the partition you want to extend. So how can you make full use of your available space on Windows Servers?

If system partition runs out of space on your Windows 2003 Server, you need to fix this problem as fast as possible, as it causes many problems, such as:

1. Hard disk drive is not big enough to satisfy all your needs, such as software update or upgrade install programs.

2. Windows operating system is running much slower.

3. Windows may crash if the free space is extremely low.

Windows Cleanup utility is useless to solve this problem, as it can only free up a little space. And don't try to delete Windows files or some applications either. The fastest and easiest way to make full use of your existing space is to extend a partition you need to store a large number of data and shrink one which stores less files.

In this article, I'll introduce you how to extend Windows Server 2003 partition with partition manager server software easily, fast and without data loss.

Two ways to extend partitions on Windows 2003 Server

To extend partition on Windows 2003 Server, you may consider merging two partitions, or shrinking one partition and then extending another partition with the unallocated space.

As by merging partitions, you'll loss an existing partition (though the files will be transferred to another partition when merging partitions), I do not suggest expanding partition by merging partitions. But if you insist on doing this, please refer to how to merge Windows Server 2003 partitions.

It is also extremely easy to extend a partition, especially system partition by resizing partition size. You just need to drag and move on the disk map to shrink an existing partition and get some unallocated space to extend the one you want to extend, there is no need to merge, format partition or rebuild the Server.

All operations can be previewed and cancelled to avoid incorrect operations. You can even extend system partition on 2003 Server without reboot if it is NTFS (Very important for Servers).

With EaseUS Partition Master Server Edition, you don't need to use traditional method to copy all the data to another place, and then delete and recreate the partitions, just for the purpose of expanding one server 2003 partition to realize better performance of the Windows 2003. This partition magic software enables you to resize Server 2003 partitions while your Windows 2003 is running. EaseUS Partition Master can merge two or more partitions into a larger one, or split a larger partition into two or more small partitions. You also can move partition, extend partition and shrink partition as you wish without data loss when you have this software in hand.
