Nowadays, a lot of large-capacity hard disks are on sale. But no matter how large your hard drive is, you'll face the problem of running out of disk space sooner or later. As time goes on, installed applications, browser caches, and temporary files located in C drive can eat up your free space and clutter your system partition.
One day, you turn on your server and find that the system C appears with a red alert: low disk pace. It tells you that the free space is not enough in your C drive. Before you get rid of this problem, Windows reminds you to install newly updates, what a terrible diaster! You are not allowed to do this for there is no available space in your system partition. With no unallocated space in C dive, operating system will run extremely slowly and you can no longer install any new applications.
Fortunately, nowadays you can extend C drive in Windows 2008 Server without deleting or formatting partition.
One of highlights of Windows 2008 Server is that it provides the new feature "Shrink Volume" and "ExtendVolume" under Disk Management. Although Microsoft has improved the ability to allow server users to manage disk partitions under Windows 2008 Server directly, Disk Management still has many disadvantages.
1. You can't extend your C drive if there is no unallocated space available on your system disk.
2. You can't extend the system C drive by shrinking other data partitions, as the unallocated space is behind the data partition after shrinking, not behind the system partition.
3. You still can't extend your C drive even if you have unallocated space on the left of the system partition.
There is no such limitation as mentioned above by using third-party server partition software: EaseUS Partition Master Server Edition, you just need to drag and move on the disk map to shrink an existing data partition (it is apparently large for use) to get some unallocated space, and then, extend the system C drive by moving the unallocated space to be behind the system partition. The third-party partition manager software allows to extend server system partition without deleting partitions or even upgrading to a bigger disk for larger space.
In technical forums, many professionals recommend EaseUS Partition Master. Based on the enhanced data protection technology, copy wizard and WinPE bootable disk built in EaseUS Partition Master Server, it is highly recommended while resizing, moving, merging and splitting partitions on Servers. Besides, it is able to extend NTFS system partition without reboot to maximize the server performance and minimize the downtime of the server.
The steps is simple, you just need to shrink an existing data partition and get some unallocated space to extend the C drive. There is no need to delete, format partition or rebuild the Server.
1. Launch the software.

There is unallocated space behind C drive, please directly go to step 4.
There is no unallocated space behind the C drive, please follow the step 2.
2. Select the partition behind the C drive, right click it, select "Resize/Move partition" and drag the partition handle leftwards to shrink its partition size. Then there will be unallocated space behind it.

3. Move E: drive rightwards to let the unallocated space be behind the C drive and click OK.

4. Select C drive, right click and select "Resize/Move partition", drag the partition handle rightwards to extend C drive.

5. Click Apply.
After EaseUS Partition Master executes the operations, you will have the bigger C drive on Windows Server 2008. Or you can merge two adjacent partitions to extend C drive.
Besides resizing partitions, EaseUS Partition Master provides partition recovery wizard and disk and partition copy wizard features. It is a complete solution to solve your Windows Server 2008 disk and partition problems.
