There is not enough space (memory) available on the disk(s) to complete this operation. Learn from the guide to fix not enough space error in Disk Management.

Windows Disk Management error message:

there is not enough space on the disk to complete this operation

"There is not enough space available on the disk(s) to complete this operation", or

"Not enough memory available to complete this operation. Quit one or more applications to increase available memory, and then try again."

When your computer says it's running low disk space to execute a certain task, don't be fooled. It's only because you're not utilizing the memory right. Many Windows users prefer to install applications and store data files to system drive, soon the drive will be filled up, and such an error generates. However, if you try to allot unused space from drive D or E or F to drive C with Disk Management program, you'll find that extend volume is grayed out. So, we collected the following solutions to help solve not enough space error happened on your disk.

Solution 1. Extend low-memory partition by using Disk Management alternative

If Windows Disk Management program sends "not enough space (or free memory)to complete this operation" error, you'll then have no choice but close the window. Instead, turn to a third-party Disk Management alternative program to proceed the operation, and the most recommended one is EaseUS Partition Master, which provides basic and advanced disk & partition management, among which the "resize/move partition" feature and "cleanup and optimization" feature will help effectively resolve low disk space issue in Windows.

Download and install EaseUS partition manager software on your computer. Launch it, and follow the guide carefully to fix "not enough space available on the disk to complete this operation" error.

Step 1. On the disk map of EaseUS Partition Master, first check if there is unallocated space behind the partition which suffers low space error. If not, go on with step 2, or else directly jump to step 5.

Step 2. Right click the partition with relatively much-unused space, and select "Resize/move partition".

Step 3. On the popped up window, place the mouse pointer on the left partition handle. Drag the handle to the partition size you want when the mouse pointer changes to a double-headed arrow.

Step 4. Now you get free space. Just drag the unallocated space next the partition you want to extend.

Step 5. Right-click the low-memory partition, and choose "Resize/move partition". Repeat the step taught in step 2, and add the unallocated space to the partition.

Step 5. Click "Apply" to confirm the operations. Now you should fix the not enough memory error.

Solution 2. Clean up junk files & extremely large size to free up space

What if the disk is theoretically filling up and gives such an error message? You don't need to buy a new large HDD or SSD to replace it, either. Try to do some cleaning with EaseUS Partition Master. Let's see if the problem can be solved after unloading GBs of junk files and large files you never use.

Step 1. Click "Cleanup and Optimization".

Step 2. Choose "Junk File Cleanup" and then click "Analyze" to ask EaseUS Partition Master to find junk files in your PC.

Step 3. Choose the junk files (you'll see the total size of the junk files) and click "Cleanup". The software will release a certain amount of space from the junk files.

Step 4. Go back to the "Cleanup and Optimization". This time choose "Large File Cleanup".

Step 5. Choose disks, especially the one running low disk space to scan.

Step 6. Confirm the large files (you'll see the total size of the large files) you won't need in the future and click "Delete". You should now free up quite a lot of space from the partition and fixed the insufficient disk space error.
